Antonella Giannantoni, MD, PhD
Associate Professor of Urology
Dr Antonella Giannantoni is Associate Professor of Urology at the Department of Urology and Andrology, University of Perugia, Italy. She shows a particular interest in functional urology, with studies on neurogenic and non-neurogenic voiding dysfunction. She has also proposed innovative treatments in superficial bladder cancer, painful bladder syndrome and Peyronie’s disease by using the “Electromotive Drug Administration” technique.
She has developed new treatments in detrusor overactivity, benign prostatic hyperplasia and painful bladder syndrome by using intravesical and intraprostatic delivery of several agents such as Capsaicin, Resiniferatoxin and Botulinum A-toxin. She has carried out over 2000 surgical operations on general and functional urology.
Prof. Antonella Giannantoni has co-authored more than 350 articles, many in peer-reviewed Journals as: European Urology, The Journal of Urology, Lancet Oncology, Cancer Research. She had a number of podium and poster presentations in both Italian and International meetings. She has written a number of book chapters. She carried out a number of funded Research Projects, particularly on Experimental models for drugs absorption into the bladder, as stability of drugs (Mitomycin C, Lidocaine, Oxybutynin, Propanteline, Resiniferatoxin, Capsaicin); pharmachokinetics of drugs delivered by passive diffusion and electromotive administration.
She is reviewer for the Journal of Urology, European Urology, Journal of Neuroscience, Neurourology and Urodynamics. Professor Antonella Giannantoni is an active member of many international urological associations, including the European Urological Association, the American Urological Association, the International Continence Society, the Italian Association of Urology, the Italian Society of Urodynamics, the Italian Society of Urogynecology. She is also a member of the International Board on “Mechanisms of Action of Botulinum A toxin in Urology and of Scientific Commettee of the Italian Urological Association.

The Role of the Editor
Professor Antonella Giannantoni was appointed as Editor of the Nocturia Resource Centre on the recommendation of the EAU Executive Committee. She selects journal articles that have been previously peer-reviewed and accepted for publication in European Urology and other urology journals on Nocturia and related topics, building a comprehensive collection of peer-reviewed content in this area.
The editorial independence of the resource centre is mandatory and recognized by the EAU and Elsevier. The journal articles and other material published on the resource centre have been selected independently and without influence from Elsevier, European Urology Editors or the sponsor.
